Labor Day

Sher and Doug came along for an overnight to Stuart Island. It was sunny (and cool), but the water was mostly flat the whole up and back. Went up east side of guemes, thru Peavine Pass and North Pass (Crane Island) and got to Stuart about 6:30.Caught some crab (mostly Rock Crab) overnight and cooked them Sunday morning before we started back. Got back to Anacortes about 6:30 and had a crab dinner on the boat before going home.

Summer 2008

This summer's been fun... but not enough time to spend on the boat. Since we had not planned to buy a boat this year, we'd filled up our calendar with a lot of other activities. Even so, we've managed to get out for a half dozen weekends and a five-day trip... all around the San Juans and Port Townsend.

Port Townsend over the 4th of July was a blast! We headed south from Anacortes on the 3rd and encountered numerous thunder storms on the way. We were wondering if we should rename the boat "Lightning Rod".

When we got to Port Townsend, we tied up at Point Hudson and found a free concert going on with the Navy Band (rock band). We also found that it was the weekend of the Fiddle Tunes Festival and enjoyed a concert at Ft. Warden.

The night of the 4th, we sat out on Pt. Hudson and enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show over at Ft. Warden.

The next morning, we caught the tide heading north and sailed on the same tack all the way to Turn Island (Friday Harbor), at times making 9 knots SOG. We continued on to Stuart Island where we spent 2 days exploring, including the Turn Point Lighthouse.

Out in the bay (Reid Harbor), Peter Fromm had his Gallery barge which was thoroughly enjoyable looking at his photographic work and talking to him.

Took the dinghy around to Prevost Harbor also, then packed it in back to Anacortes. It was a beautiful trip.

Next trip this Labor Day weekend (2 days) and then a 7-day trip September 6... Can't wait.

New Owners

My wife Marie and I recently purchased the Kohilo and are in the process of getting to know her through mostly weekend cruises in the San Juans. She is currently berthed in Anacortes. Been out in snow, sleet, sun, clouds... as well as flat water and windwaves to 5'... and she has performed beautifully.

We just set up this blog so more info and pictures to follow.
